Ovalmate flat oval duct connection system

Basic Use:

The Ovalmate flat oval duct connection system was developed to provide an easier, virtually airtight, connection of flat oval duct sections at a lower overall cost and with excellent appearance.

Limitations:

The Ovalmate flat oval duct connection is not recommended for applications with duct gauges heavier than 16 GA. with spiral lock seam or lighter than 28 GA. Width of pocket is sufficient to accommodate spiral lock.

Composition and Materials:

Semi-circular End Flange sections with integral mastic in the duct receiving pocket.
Straight Flange Sections ( 1 for each flat side ) with integral mastic in the duct receiving pocket.
Connector Pieces ( 4 per completed frame )
Screw-type Cleats

Applicable Standards:

Flange Steel: 20 gauge galvanized steel. Connector Pieces: 12 gauge galvanized steel. Cleats: 16 gauge galvanized steel. Mastic: Ductmate DM5511M Gasket: Ductmate Neoprene gasket and Ductmate 440

Installation

Cut straight flange to required length with a friction type metal cutting saw, hacksaw or bandsaw.
Build frame by inserting Connector Pieces into both ends of each straight flange piece. Join straight flange pieces with semi-circular flange pieces to form oval frame.
Build mating frame in the same manner.
Slide Ovalmate Frame onto the end of each section of flat oval duct to be mated. Hammer face of flange with mallet so that leading edge of duct penetrates the matic and is firmly seated in the pocket. The leading edge of the duct has to slide past t he lower edge of the Connector Pieces.
Attach frame to duct section using mechanical fasteners (screws or spot-welding). See Assembly Manual for proper spacing of fasteners.
Apply a short piece of DM440 gasket tape over the raw edge of the duct at each Connector Piece.
Apply Ductmate Neoprene gasket tape to the face of one of the mating frames.
Align frames and join together with 3/8" bolts through Connector Pieces.
Apply screw-type cleats at specified intervals around perimeter of mating frames. See Assembly Manual for specific requirements.

Virtually no leakage at up to 18" WG positive pressure or down to 10" WG negative pressure.
