WIRE ROPE HANGING SYSTEM CASE STUDY

Ductmate Answers Call To Develop

Seismic-Rated Wire Rope Hanging System

The HVAC industry has used standard methods to hang ducts with threaded rods, straps, etc. for many years.  More recently, contractors have been using other types of hanging systems such as wire rope with some success.

Ductmate Industries decided to analyze this segment of the HVAC market.  Our engineers studied the various types of hanging systems to identify the best method of providing reliable service.  Cost and time analysis studies were conducted during the investigation in order to develop a product that could save the industry both time and money.

The investigation concluded that wire rope hanging systems are an ideal solution when compared to conventional methods, lowering installation costs without compromising on reliability or safety requirements.

After studying available wire rope systems on the market, Ductmate engineers accepted the challenge to provide the HVAC industry with an improved suspension system that is simpler, lighter, easier to attach and reduces installation time.

The result of their efforts is Ductmate’s new Clutcher™ Mechanical System Hanger and EZ-Lock™ Wire Rope Beam Clamp.  These systems were very well received by the industry when first introduced three years ago and reports of considerable time savings – up to 60% versus threaded rod installations – were announced, marking the products as an immediate success.

“Engineers from across the country kept telling us that they felt our product was top notch,” said Ductmate’s Senior Sales Engineer Bill Elosh.  “But many of them in areas like California and New York were asking whether the Clutcher™ and EZ-Lock™ were seismic rated.”  Ductmate decided once again to face the challenge.
